Beyond the grape.
Tucked at the base of Mt. Washington just outside the Comox Valley, you’ll find Coastal Black, an award-winning estate fruit winery and cidery. The farm comprises four generations of family members who live and work together to produce high-quality wines and ciders.
In addition to the delicious libations they create, Coastal Black also runs a busy farm operation. They have 40 acres of blueberries, 50 acres of eating corn, 40 acres of squash and pumpkins and have 450 colonies of bees. They sell fresh market vegetables and fruit, raw honey and even hand-made wooden artwork.
Since establishing Coastal Black in 2009, Bonnie and Terry Ludwig have prioritized using organic and sustainable practices, seeking to preserve the land, air and waterways they are located within.
